Steps To Write With Cricut Machine

Here are the steps to follow on how to write with Cricut given below:

Part 1: Set Your Text

  1. For a new project on a computer, open the Cricut Design Space. Tap the Design Space and choose “New Project” on the left. It takes you to a blank design screen with the grid and all Cricut tools.
  • If you’ve other projects you’ve worked on, these also appear on your screen before choosing “New Project.”
  • Download Design Space to your Windows, Mac, or Android by visiting the Cricut website and installing the plugin.
  1. Next, select “Text” from your sidebar on the left. Tap the big “T,” which stands for “Text,” just below “Image” on the left side of your screen. It creates a text box that contains your writing.
  • Make the text box larger or smaller by removing the arrow in and out of the bottom right of the text box, depending on your choices.
  1. Now, type in the desired text in the text box. Type whatever you want into the Cricut machine, like “Hello” or “Happy Birthday!” Create words larger or smaller by removing the arrow at the bottom right to expand or contract the letters.
  • For example, if you are creating writing that will go on a 5 by 5 inch (13 by 13 cm) of cardstock, you want your text to be 3 inches (7.6 cm) tall.
  • The Cricut Design Space includes a virtual ruler that helps how large or small your text is.
  1. Then, choose your text and find the “Writing” to make a solid letter. You can see the tool only if you have selected writing by pressing it. Choose the text box, then tap the menu in the upper set of tools, which probably says “Normal.” Scroll through the options and tap “Writing.” It tells Cricut that you are writing something and to be sure that your text will be reliable.
  • To make bubble letters that will not be filled, do not choose “Writing.”
  1. Now, arrange letters so that it is appropriately formatted. If you are using more than one text box, remove each text box so that it is the appropriate distance according to how you want it to appear as you type. Double-check that the size is correct and each word is evenly spaced so that it can be read.

Part 2: Choose Fonts and Colors

  1. First, tap “Font” and select a filter to see which fonts are available. The “Font” is located in the upper side tools. Once you’ve clicked that, choose the “Cricut” to display the available fonts, and then click “Filter” to select “Writing” to see the fonts you want to use with can be used for writing.
  • Once you’ve filtered fonts using the “Writing,” only those fonts appear as options used to write with Cricut.
  • All these filters appear when you press “Font.”
  1. Test various fonts until you find the one you like. Click on various fonts from the menu to try each. To see what each font looks like, type in a word in the text box, and choose a word of your choice to use for writing.
  • Fonts have settings like “bold” or “italics,” so you can customize them.
  • Various fonts may change how wide or long the text is.
  1. Press on the Layers panel to drag up the available font colors. The Layers panel is on the right screen. Tap “Layer Attributes” to see the pen colors, showing you a list of pens you can select.
  • For example, if you’ve a handwriting pen and a light turquoise pen, the menu will show something like “Black Calligraphy 2.0” and “Light Turquoise 0.4 Tip.”
  1. Choose a color in which you want your writing to be. Tap the different pen colors to see how they look. Each time on a different pen color, the color in your text box will change to match.
  • Feel free to test various colors by making multiple pieces of writing in various text boxes to see which suits you best.
  • For example, you can draw your text using a calligraphy pen and then another text using a glitter pen to see which works best.
  1. Use multi colors by setting up different colors for many text boxes. Create a text box for each to write in various colors (or fonts!). Then choose a different color for each using the same menu under “Layer Attributes.”
  • You can make a text box that says “Get Well” (blue) and another text box that says “Soon” (metallic gold).
  • Buy Cricut pens with various options, like metallic pens, fine point pens, or calligraphy pens.

Part 3: Connect Your Cricut Machine To Write

  1. Choose all text boxes and tap “Attach” to group them. If you’re writing one word, you don’t need to worry about it. Otherwise, choose all the text boxes in the desired layout and tap “Attach” bottom right of the screen. It ensures your layout doesn’t change when you write.
  • To select and group all text boxes, tap outside any existing text box and remove the mouse across the whole surface space, including the box.
  1. To preview your writing, “Make It” top right of the screen. Once you tap “Make It,” a preview screen will show you what your writing looks like once you’re done. If it looks good, tap “Make it” again in the lower right.
  • Since it’s only a preview screen, feel free to go back and make any changes to the design if wanted.
  1. Connect the Cricut machine using the menu. After you tap “Make it” a second time, the Design Space prompts you to connect the Cricut machine. Choose your machine from the menu to continue with the process.

  1. Put in your chosen paper and pen so that machine is ready to write. Set material when prompted by the screen. Press on the material type you’re working with. Then follow the instructions on your Cricut to load into the pen in color.
  • Instead of paper, you can select a material like an artboard, fabric, or felt.
  • If you use more than one color, Cricut instructs you when to replace your pen if required.
  1. Click “Go” to tell the Cricut machine to start writing. Once materials and pens are uploaded and in place, click “Go” on the Cricut machine. Watch as your Cricut Maker creates writing designs.
